LETTING THE FABRIC SPEAK FOR ITSELF
Gambiered Canton Gauze refers to an ancient silk dyeing process relying on the use of yam sap (She Liang) and river mud. Unique to the Guangdong region of China, this know-how consists in soaking silk in yam sap, then fully exposing it to the sunlight until it adorns a radiant ochre-brown color. This natural color is then covered with a thin layer of river mud, a natural catalyst that reacts to yam sap to reveal the most natural black tint. This traditional know-how was never industrialized. It carries the warmth of the hand and the spirit of the Earth. In this respect, it can be regarded as an ideal expression of the harmonious symbiosis between Man and Nature.
SHADES OF EARTH
The Guangdong Gauze is a naturally-made and eco-friendly fabric of long history. Produced only in Shunde area, Guangdong Province in China, this textile is crafted by hand. The complex making process involves multiple steaming, boiling and sun-baking.
