Chinese Wardrobe

ICICLE has been constantly exploring the approach to translate the cultural heritage and subtle connotations of Chinese clothing to the contemporary "Chinese Wardrobe". It is such exploration that inspired this men's experimental capsule collection. Moreover, we invited seven friends of ICICLE from diverse backgrounds to present the capsule and hopefully to reveal the shared ethos of contemporary Chinese.
The far-reaching agricultural civilization cultivated the hiding-over-showing oriental aesthetic. Chinese dressing preferences are just a reflection of this underlying aesthetic.

Without highlighting the body shape, the traditional wide robes with large sleeves create a more inclusive and pithy silhouette. Well-hiding with ample room for movements, the robes bring out the spiritual temperament of the wearers.

The well-thought use of fabrics and cuttings, the smartly simplified details of the collars, sleeves, and back parts, together with a contemporary design approach of simplicity and balance, reconstructed the “Chinese Wardrobe”.

The designer invited seven friends of ICICLE from diverse backgrounds to experience and feel the pieces in their daily life. The attempt is also to document the essence of Contemporary Chinese through telling their life stories.
